Tracertrak | How do I send a message to a device?
Messages can be sent to devices from the Tracertrak console, from a SMS capable device or from another Tracertrak device.
Tracertrak provides a number of different ways to send a message to a device.
SMS
A SMS capable device, such as a mobile phone/cell phone, can be used to send a message to a two-way capable device. The SMS sent must take one of the following methods:
SMS to a Pivotel Number
An SMS sent to a Pivotel Number will be delivered to the device that is assigned to the Person who the Pivotel Number is allocated to.
SMS Commands
People registered on the Tracertrak account can use the MESSAGE SMS Command to send a message to a device.
Device to Device Messaging
Messages can be sent from one two-way capable device to another two-way capable device through either of the following methods:
SMS to a Pivotel Number
An SMS sent to a Pivotel Number will be delivered to the device that is assigned to the Person who the Pivotel Number is allocated to.
SMS to a Device Recipient Address
An SMS sent to a Device Recipient Address will be delivered to the device that is allocated to the Person who the device recipient address belongs.
Console Messaging
Tracertrak provides a messaging service which allows you to send and receive device messages along with reviewing private messages that did not get sent via the Tracertrak console. You can access this service by clicking on the Messages menu option.
Messaging Threads
The messaging service allows you to select from Public (messages sent to and from the console) and Private (messages not sent to or from the console). Visibility to Private messages is restricted to those people who the messages was addressed to.
Tracertrak will retrieve the last 300 messages no older than 99 days. Messages between a device and Tracertrak are grouped in threads. Threads allow for an overview of communication from separate devices. Threads are ordered by the most recently active message threads.
Clicking on a thread will open the collective messages. Messages are ordered chronologically. Both inbound and outbound messages are displayed. The person, device, or console user is displayed in bold as the message sender.
Creating a New Message
Clicking the Create New Message button will open a pop-up, enabling you to type a new public message and select a list of active device recipients. You are able to select any number of devices to transmit the message to. The resulting action will add the message to a new or existing thread for each selected device. A maximum length of 160 characters is allowable for outbound messages. Outbound messages will appear in Tracertrak immediately, however, to ensure receipt of the message on the device, please allow a suitable transmission time and ensure the device has adequate network connectivity.
Replying to a Public Message
To reply to a public message, select the Public Messages tab, select the message thread you want to respond to and enter a reply message in the message editing field at the bottom of the page.
